Entangled Ray Rescued by Divers from Deadly Trap

Divers in Begur, Costa Brava, Spain, recently reported to Project AWARE a very sad discovery. They found various entangled animals trapped in an abandoned net. For many of these marine creatures, the divers came too late, but luckily thanks to their immediate actions, they managed to free some of the animals including a ray and a few scorpion fish.

“Discarded and lost fishing gear poses a major threat to aquatic wildlife everywhere in the world” commented Jordi Atienza, PADI Instructor Examiner. “This experience showed again that the conservation of the environment does not only depend on a few, but the public in general and the local authorities need to be made aware of those threats in order to take action and protect nature” he added.
