5th International Marine Debris Conference

 

The 5IMDC Movie Night is an opportunity to highlight your marine debris-related film to participants of the conference. 5IMDC Movie Night will be held the evening of Wednesday, 23 March 2011, 7:00-10:15pm.

We will be accepting applications through Friday, 10 December 2010.

WHO CAN ENTER
Anyone may enter their film - filmmakers, non-profit organizations, students, researchers, amateurs - anyone with a passion for keeping our seas free of debris!

TYPE OF FILM
We will accept any type of film (PSA, music video, etc.) just as long as it pertains directly to marine debris. See FILM CATEGORIES below.

WHO WILL BE CHOSEN
We have a total of 9 Movie Night slots available and 10 on our 5IMDC Video Highlights Reel that will play in the Exhibit Hall. Entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges and applicants will be notified by 31 January 2011.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Applicability to international audiences
  • Concept & content - Is the concept unique? the storytelling or narrative coherent and does it hold your attention? Does the writing have resonance and stay with you long after viewing it?  Is the content unbiased? Based on factual information? Etc.
  • Creativity & quality of craft - How creative were the producers in creating this film? Original concept? How do you rate the appearance and quality of the captured images, editing, sound design and audio integration?  Do all aspects lead to a memorable viewing experience?
  • Overall experience

LENGTH
Films may be of any length; however we only have 10 minutes for every film. If your film is shorter than 10 minutes, great!  If it is longer than 10 minutes, choose your favorite 10 minutes (send us only those 10 minutes) and submit an application! We will allow 2 minutes before your screening for a brief introduction of your film.

FILM FORMAT FOR SUBMISSION
Two copies of each film must be submitted via mail. Please note that copies will not be returned.
1. Application copy - Acceptable file formats: .mp4, .wav, .mov, or .avi
2. Screening copy - Acceptable file format: NTSC DVD

You will be asked to choose up to three categories that your submission fits in.

  • Advocacy
  • Professional Filmmaker

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Your film must be in English or have English subtitles as the official language of the 5IMDC is English.
  • Films not suited for a general audience cannot be shown.

TO APPLY
To apply, please be sure you have read the information above carefully. Then, download the pdf application form (fillable pdf; 151KB) and read through carefully. Fill in all required fields (all required fields show up as red boxes). Any applications received that are incomplete (missing video copies, incomplete application form) will not be considered.
