NOAA Marine Debris Program
The NOAA Marine Debris Program serves as a centralized marine debris capability within NOAA in order to coordinate, strengthen, and increase the visibility of marine debris issues and efforts within the agency, its partners, and the public.  This Program is undertaking a national and international effort focusing on identifying, reducing, and preventing debris in the marine environment.  Additionally, the MDP supports and works closely with various partners across the U.S. to fulfill the Program’s mission.

NOWPAP MALITA
NOWPAP has initiated a project called Marine Litter Activity (MALITA) since November 2005, after approval by the Tenth NOWPAP Intergovernmental Meeting. NOWPAP MALITA was a part of the UNEP Global Initiative on marine litter, together with about 10 other individual Regional Seas Programmes.

Plastic Debris Rivers to Sea Project
The Plastic Debris, Rivers to Sea Project seeks to minimize the land-based discharges of marine debris. Just like ocean-based marine debris, land-based discharges of human-made debris are comprised mostly of plastics.
